I stumbled across
this article by Home Channel News a short while ago, which mentioned a presentation given today at
BIMForum by McGraw-Hill Construction. Among the details, as expanded in
this report on CNBC:
- BIM usage has jumped from ~17% of the industry in 2007 to 71% in 2012
- For the first time, more contractors (74%) are using BIM than architects (70%)
- The percentage of "heavy users" of BIM workflows has spiked by 44% since 2009

This data backs up the trends we've been observing in the industry over the past few years—namely, that BIM represents a real and irreversible change to the AEC process, and that those exposed to the most liability (i.e. contractors) have possibly the most to gain out of this shift in technology.
